Is there a way to get cable television channels from the internet? internet tv?

I found some “internet tv” websites but they only have news channels and the discovery channel and a bunch of amde up channels than show random video of crap. Does anyone know of any actual internet provided television. I have my laptop hooked in to a big screen tv and watch downloaded movies on it all the time. Last night I was watching The Discovery Channel on the internet on Channel King.com does anyone else have any suggestion?
